1938 Hillman Minx Roadster
This is a rare Hillman Minx Roadster with a rumble seat. I first became aware of this car about 7 years ago when it appeared on eBay. I chickened out and didn't place a bid and immediately regretted it. I called the seller and told him I'd pay the new buyer to walk away from the deal. I wasn't sure that message ever made to the buyer since I never heard from him. 6 years went by then I received a call from the buyer and he said he kept my number and was going to sell the car. This time I jumped on it. It arrived at my home a month later. It's pretty rough and through the years the boxes of parts that were with the car have disappeared. I'm now on a hunt to find these missing pieces so I can get the car back on the road.
According to the original sales description it was purchased used in Singapore approximately 44 years ago and imported to the United States in a container with oil field equipment. It sat in the first owner's warehouse for 12 years, the second for 25, and in the previous owner's garage for 6 years.
Trying to find another picture of one of these cars on the internet has proved difficult. I've been unable to find a car similar to it. There are some that are similar but the doors open the opposite direction and the windshield frame is different. I'm researching the pre-war Hillmans to get a better idea on the history and origin of my Roadster. This one is going to need a lot of work.
The pictures below are from the eBay add or were taken by my Hillman buddy Von who was kind enough to go look at the car for while it was in Texas

I'm on the hunt for another one of these three lug wheels. One of the wheels is beyond repair. I've seen other Hillman wheels that are similar but I need a wheel that has the square attaching points for the hub cap
The pictures above and below show the parts that are no longer with the car. At some point during a previous ownership transfer they disappeared.....ouch. Now I'm on the lookout for the missing pieces and more. If you see a piece missing in any of the photos on this page I don't have it.
The pictures below were taken by the guy that sold me the car.
This bent bumper was an easy fix. Just took it off and bent it back in to shape over my knee.
I need the plate that mounts the fuel pump and oil fillertube and cap for the engine. I may also need the silver plate on the engine (up above) as it looks home made. I also need the coil and mount that attaches it to the side plate
Missing whatever used to cover the transmission and wood along the sill.
These are the ONLY parts I received with the car
The truck showed up with the car not long after I bought it. It's not as bad as it looks underneath. That's my story and I'm sticking to it
This brochure shows one of the few pictures that I was unable to uncover of a Minx Roadster.
